Well, I got tired of looking at all those bare metal bolt heads and nuts all over my black engine so I got to thinkin.
I've never been a fan of those snap caps or Hot Toppers and figured that they would look stupid on a flat black engine case. So...I went down to the hobby store and bought a bottle of Testors Flat Black modelers paint and a few small paint brushes.
Took less than an hour and now all non-chrome hardware in the black areas of my engine are flat black just like the cases and such. Been that way for over a month with no need to touch up yet. If I ever do need to remove a bolt, I'll just touch it up again. I also did all the spacers and anything else that looked like it should be black.
I spose this would work with silver paint for those with silver engines too.

Best of all, CHEAP!

Boy, I bet that looks great, but Iva, I think you must have entirely too much time on your hands...

Dude... It was less than an hour and less than 3 bucks.

In fact, I was done so quick that I had time to flip the splash guard up on the computer and check out some of DH's pics.

That looks great! Think I'll give it a shot until I get around to going with stainless.

Thanks Oak.

I was going to do the stainless thing too.
Then I got to thinking that some of the hardware should just kinda disappear. That's how I got the idea.
Now I don't know which ones to do stainless and which should stay gone.

During my recent soiree into changing things, I pulled all the previous owner's chrome covers off and replaced all hardware with a Garder
Westcott builders kit of chrome hardware all for less than $200. Looks great and according to the local indy stronger than stainless. We used the allen head bolts and if you want can insert these little plugs for a finished look.

Iva, I would go black to black and stainless to chrome.

I think that there is a Wisconsin vendor that has a product called "Toppers" that cover the bolts and such to make them a different color.

Beware the lollipop of mediocrity.
Lick it once, anc you'll suck forever.

On the other hand, that pesky space time continum is startin' to worry me.

I've seen where the owner would color match the insides of allen head bolts with whatever body color was on the bike. It looked pretty sharp and kept the insides from showing a rust color.
