As some of you may recall, Buck and Dot offered to put us up in their cabin and show us around some more of those fine Wisconsin back roads since we were not able to get all the time off work needed to attempt the much longer Cape Rally.

Sara and I had to drop our dog and Justin off in Hastings; so we had a much nicer ride over to Buck and Dot's rolling down the Great River Road in Wisconsin along the Mississippi. We couldn't have asked for a better day to ride either. Traffic was light, skies were clear blue and pocked with puffy white clouds with temps near 80*.

Along the way, we stopped at a scenic overlook in Alma Wisconsin that Sara had never been to before. When we neared the park we noticed a sign for a winery with free tastings a 1/4 mile down the road. Being it was Buck's birthday and my Mother in law, who is dog sitting for us, loves wine we had all the excuse needed. We enjoyed their wines so much, we picked up a 6-pack. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/green_beer.gif)
After some wonderful backroad riding, we arrived in Tomah around 5:30 and had a delicious meal with Buck, Dot and Seth before retiring to the back yard fire pit for an evening of tall tales and tall drinks.

Today we roll out after breakfast for parts unknown to Sara and I and we'll be bunking down in their cabin on the Kikapoo river for the next couple days. We're taking photos with our phones along the way and we'll try to get some up to share with all you other lurkers at home wishing you were at the rallies.

Sounds kinda like a few years ago when I was roaming around Arizona and went to a "2 Broke for Sturgis" rally south of Flagstaff! Never hurts to have a "plan B".

Rode some good roads yesterday. Climbed the arch @ Rockbridge, hiked to the Natural Arch, stopped for some craft brews, came back to the cabin, stuffed ourselves on pulled pork and talked smart around the campfire. Picks will come later.

Well we're back in Hastings. Sara will spend the day here with her sons and I'll be leaving shortly for Mankato because I work tonight.

I'm going to try to post a pic from my phone.

Ok...I'm home, home now. 865 miles and perfect weather for 3 out of 4 days...pretty fucking awesome. Wisconsin warrants another real rally someday. If I didn't know better, you could have told me I was riding in the Black Hills in some parts and I would have believed you. Sara and I definitely plan to go back this fall so we can see those hills full of color. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yes.gif)

What a great weekend!!!

Couldn't have been more fun showing Clay and Sarah around our territory. Had some great laughs, shared stories, and in general, enjoyed life to the max.

Here's a sample of the riding.....

We rode in Monroe, La Crosse, Crawford, Vernon, Richland , Sauk and Juneau Counties. Clay and Sara came down thru Buffalo, Trempealeau and Jackson Counties. We are so blessed to have such great riding so close to home.

We have beaver and we have coons......and we have coons(the animal, not the human type) with beavers. But Mark is correct....it's supposed to be a Badger. Tends to be a lot of those Historical Markers in the state with "Buck and Dot were here" carved into the backside. Don't have the slightest idea why tho.......... for all you history buffs, here's the whole story....

"History, rather than the law, explains Wisconsin’s unofficial nickname as the ‘Badger State.’ During the lead-mining boom that began just prior to 1830 in southwestern Wisconsin, the name was first applied to miners who were too busy digging the ‘gray gold’ to build houses. Like badgers, they moved into abandoned mine shafts and makeshift burrows for shelter. Although ‘badgers’ had a somewhat derogatory connotation at first, it gradually gained acceptance as an apt description of the hardworking and energetic settlers of the Wisconsin Territory."

How Wisconsin became the Badger State

Yep that would be one side of the Oregon State flag with the Oregon seal on the reverse side, incidentally it is the only State flag that the front and back are different.

I assume the Badger is portrayed as it is on the Great Seal of the State of Wisconsin......which is poorly.
