I thought I would take the time to pick the brains of my peers and see if anyone had some recommendations for a seat with a back rest for my 08 softail custom and some decent ( not extremely priced ) bags either soft or hard. I have been and plan on doing some really long rides and would love to have some storage and back support. I'm young enough that a few hours of riding doesn't bother me, but after I got tore up overseas in the corps my back doesn't handle all day rides very well. Don't really care if its a single seat or double. Ive checked out the Harley brand an like them but I want to see if anyone knows of better aftermarket rigs. Thanks for your help

Having owned and ridden an FXSTC on multi-day trips, I recommend the stock seat. It is the softest/cushiest there is. By itself that won't give you much back support for a long ride. HOWEVER, if you then put a T-bag (or similar) on the passenger portion, the bag itself provides a decent back rest.
As for saddlebags, I chose the removable ones specifically for the FXSTC. No complaints.

Sounds good to me, seeing as the old lady has her own ride now I ain't gotta worry about hauling her around anymore haha. I do love how comfortable the seat is thats for sure, especially coming from several previous bikes that jarred you silly.

Mike it sounds like you are not getting enough night fresh air. Is your bike still down? hahaha (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/hysterical.gif)

unfortunately it is ... I am going through the service manual today ... I will swap out the starter myself this weekend or next weekend ... but I am guessing that there is a tool to remove the lines from the oil tank which looks like it needs to be removed to replace the starter ... I will learn more later today ...
