Sound was marginal

I went with Biketronics system ... high power 2-channel amp, 7.1" speakers, Sony Head unit.

20% for Cyber Monday. (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/beerbang1.gif)

I will post reviews in next month or so after install and test ...

(* radios on bikes ... who would have guessed?? *)

Didn't you rig up something for tunes on the Nightrain?

If so, is it for sale? Would it work on my bike? (RG has me spoiled for tunes but I still prefer my VStar)

I had two different set-ups that I tried on the Night Train.

One set went away with the V-Rod.

The other set-up is in a drawer in the garage.

Remind me ... in the Spring I will set it up on the work bench ... if you want it it is all yours ... I will even help / do the install (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/beerbang1.gif)

If you still have a working "Walkman" type portable cassette player, you can jack that into the system Mike has too. Both would use the same headphone jack connection.

I know what you mean ... I would not have beleived it myself ... but, since I turned the 1/2 centry this year I figured it might be time to start growing up / old ...

I am doin' well.

I had to move to Illinois so they would let Bruce retire... We now live on an "Illinois Mountain"

And we went ti Ireland for almost 2 weeks in October ... what a BLAST!!!!

So ... the Install is complete ... WOW, what a HUGE difference ...

I installed this weekend without any problems … except maybe for the softball sized mouse home in the fairing, the few chewed wires, and the missing screws and bolts from whomever put in the last radio … lol

The iPhone or iPod or USB drive goes into the radio where a CD would normally go ... way cool

The other challenge I dicovered with the fairing off ... one of the mounting tabs was snapped off ...

so 15 minutes later thanks to some stainless steel hardware and an "L" bracket ... all good to go (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/beerbang1.gif) (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Hey Mike! Is this the marine grade Sony? I'm looking to upgrade my stereo this winter. Trying to find Marine radio with Bluetooth streaming audio. Going to go with 6.5" speakers in the fairing with an amplifier....just trying to find a marine headunit with bluetooth!

Not spcifically a "marine" Sony. This one came with some adhesive plasitic that covered the top and side to keepwater out of it ... as well as a plastic insert that goes onto the external front of the radio to also keep moisture out.

You should contact biketronics ... tey were cool with information even when I told them I might buy things elsewhere (I adventually bought everything from them)

There adaptor harness makes any Sony a plug and play.

And take a look at the over 7" speakers from them ... I have them and they sound GREAT... they include the rings for an easy install and the videos on the site make it pretty easy.

thanks mike! i bought the sony marine unit from them with the harness kit, and have a set of 6.5" Hertz speakers and a Soundstream 320 watt amplifier to make them rip. Everything should be here next week and i'll be anxious to install them just to look at the bike until it comes out in the spring!

one of the wires on the stock harness controlls that ... maybe Lou can tell you the colors of that wire.

The previous owner of my bike had cut the one wire to omit the function as well ...

Yo Mike (Night Rider): Question: I inherited Mikeys stereo. Thinking about installing speakers in the saddlebags. I see from the pics that you have a speaker switch on your fairing so you must have speakers in your saddlebags. Do you really hear a difference? Necessary? How often do you actually use them? With the setup Mikey did do I really need them? I mean this thing is loud as shit when I have it cranking.

Thanks.

Or maybe not. Just took another look at the pic of your dash and that's not a speaker switch but a "Spot" switch, same as mine. Never mind!!!

LOL

probably depends on number of channels on the amp ... 2 versus 4

The other switch beyond the spot is for the cruise control ...
