I have an 06 FXSTI with Drag bar with built in I,m guessing 8" risers that have the internal wires. I want to replace these with 4" risers and drag bars, can the original wiring be reused or do you buy new. I haven't looked into this wiring thing much yet and to tell you the truth I don't know if it will even come out.

Same wiring should be fine....

Since your shortening the riser length you'll have a little extra wire but the extra wire should still fit inside your bars.... I wouldn't cut it in case you want to change the bars out to something different later on...

Good Luck, and post a pic of your bike with the new bars...

I like the look of the drag bars too...

Hmmmm, the wires ran internally through the bars on my 03 Dyna, and exited between the risers. Seems to me if they ran through the risers they would be cut of the bars slipped in the risers..... unless the risers were welded to the bars. In any case, there was a couple of inches of slack in the wires under the gas tank. 2 options, you can open the plug, and remove the wires 1 by 1 from the plug and pull them through the bars / risers, then re-thread them through the new bars / risers then put the plug back together again.

OR

cut them (staggered cuts) {this is what I did} pull the wires through, re-thread them then use wire sleeves and solder the wires back together. Did this the fisrt time on my '92 Springer with I put 14" apes on it, then again when I took them off and put 12's on. Also when I removed the drag bars from wife's '04 nightrain. Take your time it is easier than you think.

Good Luck
