Well I'll start by saying I LOVE my carbon fiber...but only up t0 65 MPH. After that it rides way back on my head and I constantly have to fiddle with it.

Facing 1400 miles or so to South Dakota in a few weeks I MUST buy a new one. On the credit card it goes...oh well. :/

I'm looking for a lower profile (no mushroom head) helmet that will stay on my damn head. Any recommendations???

Harley helmet? Other???

Thanks!

Your helmet is too big. Wear a cap under it.

It's not...and I do. It's just a poor design Bam. When the thin padding layer compresses after about a half hour it starts to shift.

Just found out...my helmet was recalled. (Advanced Carbon Composites)

I can mail it back for a full refund. Not bad after 5 years of use! LMAO

Just go where you can try it on. Ordering on the internet screws you and buying from a dealer screws you worse.

I have been putting up with a expensive HD brand half helmet for months, I could not see straight at over 60mph. I thought the problem was my windshield was too low causing turbulence.

About a month ago I bought a Outlaw brand Helmet with Marine Corps graphics and LOVE it. No vibration up to 90mph.

I never never endorse a item but I love my new Outlaw Helmet.

just bought a new outlaw helmet for the wife Zip, she loves it. fits her head and doesnt feel as heavy as her harley helmet. I got myself a 2x on order also, if it fits anyways, if not gonna cut a empty 5 gallon bucket in half and use it. Outlaw makes some good lookin shit and they are reasonably priced. $65.00 bucks aint bad

I bought the same helmet for the Cape trip. Same thing, Zip. In fact, I bought two, different sizes. The "too small" one does the same thing when I have it on so tight I proll couldn't talk!!!

Don't like 'em.

Sure would like to send 'em back and git some scratch!!!

Gimme contact digits if you have them, please!!

Bill / Bruce - You can NOT get your money back through the recall. You could have at one time, but now the company has gone out of business. The phone number is reassigned, the mail gets returned. Their web address is a dead URL. I have one of their helmets and I like it, but its true that the padding is thin and compresses early in a ride.

I don't know about Outlaw, but Daytona seems to make a good helmet that isn't like a mushroom. Fulmer too.

I agree with Sammy. You gotta walk in and try it on your head. All helmet forms are not the same. Some are rounder, some are more oval. You gotta try it on to make sure. Otherwise there is a chance it won't feel right.

The helmet I was using in Cinci was an Outlaw Carbon Fiber. I like it, it is light and the only time it shifts is sometimes when you get a lot of turbulance from a passing truck, but not much.

I was looking for a nice low profile half helmet. The scorpion was perfect, no mushroom, head sat real low. Perfect, except, there's an ugly silver "S" on the front.
And it's recessed into the helmet, so if you pry it off the indentation is still there. Guess I could have painted it. but It was 120.00 bucks (which is cheap) but so am I.
So I wasn't going to drop 120 and then paint it.

Hmmmmm...the Outlaw sounds great but I can't try it on. I can try on the HD helmet but if I hate it - it can't be returned. Gawd I hate these decisions. LOL

Jarhead...

Did the HD helmet just vibrate or did it ride back? Was the visor on??? Maybe that caused a vibration????

The HD helmet vibrated, I took off the visor and there was some improvement but I still could not see clearly at over 60.

It fits tight no slippage it just does not have good aerodynamics, I sure would have thought for $260 They would have tested it at speed.

The outlaw was around $65

Zip, Go to the dealer and find one that you like. Then, look inside at the product tag and see who makes it. My 3/4 harley helmet is made by HJC and is about $90 less than the Harley hat. Same friggin' helmet without the HD logo.

Zip, I've been riding with an HD half helmet that I like pretty well. I got it on sale. It doesn't show up on their website, so it must have been discontinued. Most of their helmets are made by KBC, so if you find one you like, you can probably find a better deal elsewhere. I don't know why, but HD persists in making all of their helmets in black only. It's the hottest color they could choose on a helmet for summer riding. I've had pretty good luck finding a style and size that I like locally, and then ordering online. I got a good deal on a Shoei 3/4 from these people.

Had a H/D half helmet for 4 years until the all the padding delaminated on the inside. That was a 2x now I wear a full face HJC in 3x...man I got a big head.

I really like the ones with the built in tinted visor because I wear RX glasses but I havent checked one out yet

Well went to HD today. Poor selection of helmets AND sizes and the one I found was $185. Screw that!

I then drove 30 miles to a yamaha dealer. Picked up a Fulmer for about $75 out the door. Slightly less padding than the HD helmet but still comfortable and fits snugly. For that price at least I'm set for SD.

Next year if I get the itch I'll ride to Columbus and go to the Iron Pony...or Louisville as Bruce suggested and go to the Motorcycle Superstore.

For now...I'm set! Thanks everyone for your input!
