I've got a 1988 Sportster 883 I'm having a sputtering issue why'll it's doing it headlight flickers it will idle fine but as soon as you start going through the gears it starts sputtering I've done plugs wire's new ultima coil and ignition gone through carb even switched the carb with no difference was hoping someone could help me out with other ideas was thinking maybe voltage regulator but don't want to keep throwing parts at it thanks in advance.

Lights too? Then it's electrical. Loose connection somewhere.

It's electric start , I've gone through wiring haven't found anything loose or chafed

If your headlight is flickering when it does this, I wouldn't think it's fuel related, but electrical.

Bad connection somewhere is my guess.
