Engine will ping when I get on the throttle too hard or when climbing a steep hill where I have to grab the next lower get long before I should have to. does anybody know i colder spark plug would solve the problem? I use 93 octane fuel and have also tried an octane booster to no avail. I know there is no timing adjustments on the engine. Thanks for any advice.

I was going to say hi or octane but it looks like you've already addressed that.

My last Sporty was a 69 XLCH. Higher octane OR clean carbon deposits out of the combustion chambers. Timing will also cause it but that was a points setup so the dealer may have to check it. Good luck, I know there are ways to spray water or carb cleaner into the intake to burn excess carbon out.
