About halfway into a otherwise great 200 mile ride I was running up through the gears when I tapped for 6th gear I had nothing, No up or down gears.

I pulled off the road and found that the acorn nut that holds the hiem joint of the shift leaver to the shift pivot arm was missing.

I quick inventory of the tool bag and I find the zip ties that someone from HST recomended I keep on the bike, Two zip tie's and 5min later the wife and I are hauling ass burning gas.Attached File  IMG_0463.jpg ( 121.43k ) Number of downloads: 0

Kinda like borrowing everyone's shoe laces to "build" a fan belt for a deuce and a half.

Good Job!

Glad you enjoyed the ride! (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

Probably more on the order of dumb ass Harley owner, then a piece of this Harley, I had recently adjusted my shift linkage to try to make more room to get my size 12 under the toe shifter.

In a hurry to ride I did not re lock tight the nut, Lesson learned. BTW am I the only one who hates heel shiters?

NO, YOU'RE NOT!!!

You're not the only one with 12s either! Very first thing I did to my new scoot. Remove that damn heel shifter. I thnk it's removed from my old RG, lowered for T, because I rode it last. Need to put it back on for her. She likes the things!

Mine is set waaay high. I only miss about one gear a year cause of laziness. I also have 1 inch footboard extensions. Really like those.

Zip ties are the 20th century answer to `baling wire'. I hate heal shifters also (have trouble getting used to floor boards as well). If I get a Heritage this Spring probably going to be my first two modifications. Good application of `adapt and overcome' Jarhead

Love toe and heel shifters. Friend insisted I had a go on his Honda Fireblade - couldn't get it into second! Adding a third item to the emergency toolbox - WD-40, duct tape and zip ties!
