I bought my last leather jacket from Walter Dyer. Been shopping for a new jacket and will probably get one used off Craigslist ...

but I am curious where you all shop for Leather on-line, or locally?... thought maybe you all might have some good leads on quality leather's.

I bought mine 16 years ago at HD.

At the time $475 seemed like CRAZY money.

However, with how well it has held up ... not a bad investment.

So, I would suggest a stroll through the stealership before purchasing elsewhere.

Looks like they are now $700

Thanks Mike, I tried one of those FXRG jackets on. It felt like I was lifting weights... wearing a weight jacket.

Eddie, look at Fox Creek. My brother has one, well made but heavy. I too have a dyer jacket. Only issue is the color has really faded.

Eddie,

I bought a Fox Creek about 11 years ago and it's still like new. Expensive and HEAVY. Like you found on the FXRG, lots of weight. I would guess that with leather, the thicker/heavier the warmer? Also has a zip in/out liner. Exceptional quality and customer service!

I don't know if I'd buy again, as with a lighter jacket I could layer up and down taking up less storage on trips as the weather changes on long rides.

heavier & thicker jacket is always better when examining reason for a leather jacket in the first place.

areas not to try to save too much:
tires
brakes
jacket
helmet

...and oh yea, bike lift, always go yellow (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Like others I bought a Harley leather jacket many years ago. Heavy as hell, but I got it on 1/2 price sale with a 50% discount ticket. $500 jacket for $125, just couldn't pass the deal. Don't wear it much unless we are on a long ride. Dumped the Chaps too. Wear Carhartt overalls and jacket in the winter, much warmer, weigh less and are a lot more flexible.

I've heard a lot of good reports from guys Re: Fox Creek.

Like others I bought a Harley "Competition" jacket in '97. It's still a good jacket, although I've switched to an off brand cheapo. Kinda like this...

I have a leather HD jacket. It was on clearance, otherwise there's no way I'd have bought it. But it's a great jacket, but heavy.
I have a textile jacket that I bought at a metric store. It is a "multi" (insulated liner, separate rain liner, & just the shell for warm weather). It has "armor" in the elbows, shoulders, and spine. Pretty good jacket. Tour Master Intake Air 2.

Dot has a Fox Creek and loves it. I have a good Harley and I like mine also. I waited till the local dealer had their 20% off sale. (actually I didn't, but they gave me 20% off anyway....they told me I didn't have to make another trip up there in a week.)

Last day of small local rallies are a good time for no-namers. Those far easterners give 20% off generally so they don't have to pack it all back up. I still have the leather overpants I bought in Branson 11 years ago and they have held up very well considering there isn't a brand name anywhere on them.
