My wife, a petite woman, has mentioned several times to me she wished she was bigger so she could have a bagger. Well, I took care of that situation. I built her one. It is a 86 Sporty that started out as a 883. I did a 1200 conversion to the motor several years ago. Over time we repainted it, changed handle bars and risers, other small stuff.
(IMG:http://www.bikerseast.com/purp.JPG) Now it has a touring rearend, Street Glide tank and dash and a fairing from the late 80s-early 90s touring bikes with the stock bars off my 99 Ultra. I built a rear pipe to cross over to the left side and modified the front pipe and installed Rinehart slip-ons. I had to reloacte the rear shocks to fit the groove in the saddlebags so now it has a cushy right. Down the road we are gonna get a chopped tour pack and quick disconnect kit and set it up in the solo position. Needless to say, the wife is very happy. I finished it today and took it for a shake down ride. (IMG:http://www.bikerseast.com/bb10.JPG) |

Nope, no tunes as of yet. We are thinking of the little speakers that look like turn signals, only they face ya, she then will connect her Ipod.
The cross over for the rear pipe took some time. The bike did turn a lot of heads during Sturgis! This post has been edited by Azhardan: Sep 11 2008, 09:43 PM |

Great job on the bike!! From the pics you would never guess it started life as a Sportster.
I had the chance to ride a friends 1200 Sportster on the interstate the other day. I was amazed at how much it shook. The mirrors were useless. How does this one respond to high speeds after all the mods you made? |

How does this one respond to high speeds after all the mods you made? We have noticed one problem.......because the bike and her are so lite the wind is picking up on the saddlebags and making it wobble a little around 75 and higher. With my heavy ass on there it don't seem to do it. Also I have regeared it so the vibration is way down. I have ridden heritages with way more vibration in the mirrors than this has. |

I know you said the problem is with the wind hitting the bags, but this might be worth looking at.
It's the Flare Windshield by Klock Werks. It's supposed to increase the downforce from the wind. Also, if you try it, give me a review so I can know if it's worth the $$. (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

We have installed a couple of them for customers and they really like them. |

How tall are they? I like being able to easily see over the short stock shield on the Street Glide.
These look a little taller and I wondered if that impacts the line of vision. |

How did you fit the tank to the frame? I have a 2001 Sporty 1200 and would like to fit a bigger tank. Did you modify the frame, or weld brackets to the tank in the same position as the original tank? Just a beautiful job on the bike!! Harley should take note!

I am looking to do the same to my 98 Sporty. I don't think I will go as far as changing out the rear end though. I was looking for some advice though. On the fairing, what year did it come off of and did you make brackets that attach to the quick disconnect windhield brackets? You have two great looking rides there!

The fairing is off the late 80s - early 90s with the five hole windshield. I bought the stock brackets for the fiaring and modified them to fit the sporty front end. The top is connected to the triple tree and the bottom to windshield clamps. With some work they prolly could be modified to fit the quick disonnect windshield brackets.

Also I have regeared it so the vibration is way down. Dan, Do you mind sharing that info? I'd like to smooth out my wife's 1200 Custom a little she complains about the mirrors vibration because she can't see shit. (IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

(IMG:http://www.harleyshoptalk.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) What year is hers? My wife's is a 1986 883. It has the chain drive and I went up 2 teeth on the front sprocket to drop the hwy rpms which dropped her vibration way down. |

I,m new to this forum, but love the bike! When you say you had to move the shocks, was that because of a different swingarm or to get the bags closer "in" on the bike. I'm thinking about adding those bags to my 05 XL1200and would appreciate any advice. I'm going to have to make my own brackets and figure I'll need bottom supports also. I realize the back sides of the bags have indents for the shocks.

Dan, you ever think of submitting a photo of this bike to one of the Harley type magazines?
