Has anyone tried one of these devices for cleaning wheels or whitewalls? Wonder how they work for a full sized motorcycle... all I see on the interweb are pics and videos smaller bikes...

Looks good. Do you know how much?
And can't one simply grab the tire and turn it while it's on that ramp? |

I dunno... seems like moving the wheel by hand would be the only easy way... but the youtube video shows them using afuckingtool.... I also wonder how much weight has to do with moving the wheel with ease? Notice the video and websites all show plastic bikes on the device? If you wash your bike while it's on a YELLOW lift, you don't need one of these devices!

I have only the genuine YELLOW Crapsman jack. Also many spray cans for tins and lots of Havoline oil. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
Seriously, when I just want to access one wheel I just use a mini floor jack and jack up one end of the bike. I wonder how the bike is held upright when on the roller chinga puta. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh2.gif) Russ This post has been edited by madmech: Jan 30 2010, 11:30 AM |

Now I want to go search youtube for the guy who turned the roller around to let the wheel turn forward, and tried it while his bike was in 1st and idoling.
Reminds me of a thread from like a year ago where a guy from another forum had his GSXR rice rocket on the stand, running, and was using a rag to clean his chain until the rag got snagged and pulled his hand through the sprocket. Lost a few of his fingy's at the knuckles! I searched for that but could'nt locate. |

Eddie,
Here is a 'poor mans' wheel cleaner. It is a shaved down 2 X 8 with a 3' galvanized pipe attached with a pipe flange and a stiffener "L" bracket. Put it toward the rear, back tire comes up, use it forward, and front comes up. Easier than getting out the bike jack. Just bevel or round over the floor and rail edges, the board will rest on the handle as support. If you leave the edges square, the bike will feel wobbly. I bought a center stand for my E Glide. To do the wheels now, I just put a 1x on the floor and put the center stand on he board, gives me the additional lift to clear the rear wheel. Good Luck!

Why would I buy something like that?
If I want to lift a wheel to clean it, I take a stack of bricks with wood on top, that just slides under the frame on the right side, at the back of the horizontal part under the engine. I take a stack the same height and put it near the frame on the left, grab a hold of the bike and stand it up straight. While it's straight I kick the second pile under the frame. When I let go of the bike, it's sitting there remarkably stable with the front tire on the ground and the rear, about an inch off. The same works for the front tire by moving the stacks, or the whole bike, if you use 4 stacks. The whole bike is trickier. I need the wife to position the stack on the front left, but I'm just a little shit and have no problem lifting my RoadKing so that both tires are off the ground. |

Listen all you fucks... I have a jack and use a jack when I need too... I also roll my bike to clean the wheels...
THE QUESTION WAS: "Has anyone tried one of these devices for cleaning wheels or whitewalls? Wonder how they work for a full sized motorcycle?" So, I'm glad you all have creative fucking ways to prop your bike up for fucking cleaning... But I take it no one has tried one of these devices... and no one knows how they work on full size motorcycles... |

I had one! Friend gave it to me when I bought his dirt bike. It was a huge pain in the ass on the dirt bike. Used it to check and adjust chain tension. Tried it once on my Springer. Between trying to balance the bike on the rollers and kick stand propped up on a piece of 2x6 I was always afraid the bike would tip over. With the bike on the stand, the rear wheel tended to drift to the right when you rotated it, changing the angle on the stand. Gave it to my neighbor who used it with his bicycle for exercise.
Also have one of the leverage wheel lifters, you know they fit onto lugs that replace the axle nuts. Worked great on the dirt bike, couldn't handle the weight of a Harley. Again, with the bike on the side stand, there was too much weight on the low side arm. With 2 people, one holding the bike upright the other handling the jack it worked, but you needed two to put it up and take it down. I used the piece of 2x8 cut down with a handle (pictured earlier) to do my wheels before I installed the center stand. Good Luck! |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) Finaly a solidfuckinganswer to the questions and to satisfy my fucking wonder? I kindah figured they must suck if they don't advertise a full size American bike in their demos... but wanted to hear first hand. Being gimp-fucken-one-armed these days... I am looking for every easy to use gadget I can find to help me... I can't work a jack and hold the bike at the same time one armed... wont even try given my limitation.... but I thought I might be able to manage rolling my bike on one of these... now that you confirmed they suck, I'll keep thinking on what I can manage... The best thing I ever used to clean a wheel was a fat woman on the back of my sporty. Her ass cheeks hung down low enough to remove the chain lube from the rim AND buff the sidewalls of the tire. A 10 mile ride should polish it up nicely for you. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hysterical.gif)
